At the Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee, we offer a fun, safe, and positive environment for our members. They are provided with the opportunity to build supportive relationships with adults, experience new things, learn about expectations, and they are recognized for their accomplishments. They are taught valuable life skills, and many make friends they will have for life. No where is this more valuable that at our Teen Center. Let us introduce you to some of our members...
Liz, age 13
"The Teen Center is a place for teenagers to get together. They help you with homework; they help you with a lot of things. My mom put me in the Teen Center for many reasons. I had trouble with my homework, I didn't have anyone to talk to, I was alone, and I was depressed. Ever since I joined the Teen Center everything has been going my way. My grades are improving in school, and I don't feel alone anymore because everyone there is so nice to you and they care. I can always talk to Cathy or Sarah when something is bothering me and they can help me. And I'm not depressed anymore."
"Something bad happened to me a few months ago, and it affected me a lot. My family suffered the loss of my grandma. It was something that I couldn't get out of my mind because it was hard for me. When I joined the Teen Center I met a lot of new friends that helped me get better. The Teen Center is a good, welcoming place because it's like having another family. I am thankful to be a member."
"When I grow up, I would like to be two things. I want to join the Air Force, so I can serve my country. And I also want to be a doctor, so I can help people in their time of need."
Denysha, age 12
"The Teen Center is like a home to me because my mom and Cathy are the same. The Teen Center is keeping me out of drama. I am happy I joined the Teen Center because it keeps me away from people I do not get along with. I can do all my school work here."
"When I am older, I would like to work at the Boys & Girls Club. I would help kids and teach them to respect other people. I would like to be a role model."
Davien, age 13
"For me, the Teen Center is here to help people. It is like another home for me, because of all the members that are special to me."
"When I grow up, I would like to be a counselor. I love to interact with other people. And I live to help people going though struggles."
Brandon, age 13
"I come to the Teen Center to get my homework done. If I have something on my mind I can talk about it. I like playing football with my friends."
"I also like coming to Teen Night and eating dinner. My favorite dinner is Chili-Cheese Hot Dogs and Spanish Rice. We play hangman, pool, Foosball, and watch movies."
"When I grow up, I want to be a football player or a mechanic. I would like to play football in college. As a mechanic, I would like to fix and design them."
Zaisha, age 15
"The Club means a lot to me. I've been a member of the Club since 2009. It is like a home. A home that is going to show me to do good in life...that I'll get help. I know everyday after school I'll be somewhere safe."
"I remember going home and not doing homework. Now that I go to the Teen Center (home) I go straight to homework. The staff is like my parents. We are all family!"
"When I grow up, I want to help others in need. I want to work in the Boys & Girls Club to help the kids. And maybe I can be a counselor in schools."
